Japanese knotweed
The team also have 5 years experience in identifying and addressing problems with Japanese Knotweed. We are able to identify the plant during its life cycle and suggest a number of solutions to control, remove or eliminate this non native plant.
The plant is spread by soil which contains the root material or rhizomes, the plant can cause damage to buildings due to the aggressive nature of its growth breaking concrete and brick work.
Where this plant is found to be in a sensitive habitat or within 10m of a watercourse the treatment period will take 2 to 3 years to ensure that no harm to the environment occurs.
When this is not possible to accommodate it maybe possible to excavate and remove the plant and roots and deposit the material at a licence waste facility.

Currently Portway Remediation are developing and patenting a new treatment method to allow the chemical and mechanical treatment of Japanese Knotweed that is not limited by the change in the seasons. This process is not as time consuming as traditional methods and the process in only undertaken once on the infected site.
The process involves the selective excavation of the root crowns/plant material and placing this matter into a purpose built sealed fragmenting unit. After pulping the root and vegetation matter, it is sprayed with herbicide to prevent germination. Following this the remaining soil that is considered to be within the influencing zone of the Japanese Knotweed is also treated to ensure that no re-growth occurs.
